About Marjorie

Biography

Born and raised in Pittsburgh, Marjorie has always loved theater and has sought out training and performance opportunities as early as elementary school.  She has participated in Master Classes, among other programs, at the Walnut Street Theater School in Philadelphia and has studied improvisation with practitioners at the highest levels.  Marjorie majored in American Studies at Grinnell College and went on to gain a Master’s degree and complete doctoral work in the same field at Boston University.  She was pleased to be able to combine her interests in history and theater when she was given the opportunity to portray suffragist Susan B. Anthony (1820-1906).  While “A Visit With Susan B. Anthony” has become her most requested program, she remains enthusiastically involved with theater arts of all kinds.  Currently based in Philadelphia, Marjorie is available to travel.

  • “Marjorie is dependable, loyal, has a strong work ethic and great stage presence.  I have worked with her as a performer and hired her as a teacher.  She is a hilarious improviser–thinks fast on her feet and can always see a comedic or sardonic spin to put into a scene.  I hired Marjorie to teach theater in retirement communities, where she was a dedicated and inspiring teacher.  The students–mostly 80 years old and up–loved her style and her supportive energy.  Two 95-year-olds who had never tried theatre before said they loved Marjorie’s classes and became key members of the ensemble.”

  • Marjorie Goldman shines as Laurie, with well-timed changes in mood and gesture.”

  • When I found Marjorie Goldman, my life was instantly enriched. I had just written a one-woman play about Eva Amelia Parker and Robert Green Ingersoll and was due to present it in Syracuse, New York within five months. Marjorie immediately began working with me, patiently coaching me and guiding me with staging, voice, and prop use. With her guidance and professionalism, my little play evolved into a full on-stage act. I highly recommend Marjorie as a consultant, acting coach, and director. She has a great eye for detail, a kind yet professional personality and a love for the theater that shows in everything she does. I want to work with her again and, in fact, I would not attempt presenting another play without her.

  • Susan B. Anthony. This was the best one yet. What a grand speaker so relevant.

  • The Susan B. Anthony presentation was very successful.  She played to a packed house.  Great energy!  Everyone enjoyed her performance.

  • The lady who performed as Susan B. Anthony was EXCELLENT! I’ve seen several great performances but in my opinion, she was by far the best! I really believed that she was the real thing. I appreciated her obvious hard work and research, her sense of humor and warmth, as well as her awareness of the audience (babies, people looking for seats, Southern folk.) She’s a keeper! Great job!

  • Susan B. Anthony was AMAZING!

  • Your performance was just terrific.  We were with a group of friends and many other friends were in the audience and everyone was just thrilled.  You are dynamic, every bit as energetic as you describe Susan B. and charming as well.  Thank you for sharing your talents with us.
